2003 - 2006: Radioprotection research engineer, IRSN, Cadarache (France).
Mission: Creation and setting of a mechanistical model of erosion dedicated to radionuclide transfer code for medium and long term periods in rivers.
Activity:
- Qualification of the experimental open flume HERODE (french acronym for Hydraulics for EROsion and DEposition) by velocimetry (Hot-wire, Laser Doppler Velocimetry, Particle Image Velocimetry) in collaboration with technical staff.
- Fields work: natural sediment sampling in rivers.
- Laboratory work: artificial erosion with HERODE, oedometric analysis (water content, granulometry), concentration measurement (turbidity measurement, water sampling).
- Modelling: development of a mechanistic model of cohesion based on the van Der Waals interaction between clay particles and on coordination; development of a hydrodynamical modelling of erosion including a cohesion force.
Results:
- Taking into account the self weight consolidation by means of porosity (water content), that appears as a key parameter for assessment of the critical shear stress of erosion of cohesive sediments (Link to the article).
- Generalization of the critical erosion shear stress concept (article in redaction).
Collaborations:
- European Working Group on internal erosion of hydraulic works (CEMAGREF, EDF...).
- European network BIOFLOW (6° PCRD).
- Misc. french implications: PPF "Erosion, Sedimentation and Slip", GDR Midi.
2003 - 2006: Teaching practical work in fluid mechanics to MSc students (2° year), EGIM (100h).
Topic: Hot-wire velocimetry of turbulent open channel flows.
Activity: Velocity profiles of a turbulent boundary layer; experimental determination of the drag coefficient; experimental determination of the boundary layer characteristics (thickness, momentum and displacement thicknesses); turbulence properties (turbulent intensity, integral and dissipation scale, dissipation rate).
Interest: Preparation of the experimental device (installation, setting, tests), supervision of students, evaluation of the work.
2003: Training period in sedimentology, IRPHE, Marseille (France).
Mission: Parameterization of a radionuclide transfer code.
Activity: Concentration measurement of a settling tank (Turbidity and water sampling and by particle image velocimetry).
Results: Identification et characterization of settling classes of particles (contribution to Brach-Papa et al, 2006).
